Another Sharktoberfest Concluded Successfully

Over 100 people with their 85 928s turned out for this year's Sharktoberfest event. We had not one, but TWO cross country drivers attend this year from New York and New Jersey, including two attendees who drove (yes, DROVE) in together from Toronto, Canada. We also had Stoyan drop by from Bulgaria. The PACNW contingent arrived in force, road warriors that they are, and the Arizona and Bay Area groups were well represented. Absolutely incredible, this demonstration of enthusiasm for the 928 and for Sharktoberfest. We are honored to have received all of them at the event.

The Friday reception at the Marriott was very well attended and we got to get reacquainted with 928 friends and meet many new ones, including Snow, who stopped by even though he could only take part in the Friday activities. The Sharktoberfest S4 Pumpkin made its traditional appearance as it keeps soldiering on with only minor repairs, like some of our cars.

Saturday's main event was a relaxed affair with plenty of sun and sodas on tap, including Randy V's famous "car bar" making a most welcome appearance. John Veninger manned the video projector once again with an informative tech session and we also had a volunteer session by dr Bob, assisted by Bill Ball, on how to perform your own alignment work. This year saw the first Sharktoberfest "off site" tech session at Greg Brown's Precision Motorwerks where he discussed the technicalities of the Sharktuner, assisted by Joe Privitelli. Thanks to all for helping increase our 928 knowledge.

After an excellent barbecue lunch catered by Blake's Place and some door prize giveaways, including many from Nicole Mossinger at Hooked on Cars (thanks Nicole!) it was time for more socializing, after which Joe led a contingent for an afternoon of go-karting at a nearby track. We wrapped up Saturday with dinner at Amazon Churrascaria, always an amazing carnivorous dining experience. Rich Andrade of Electronik Repair donated our featured door prize - a 928 fuel injection brain rebuild. Thanks to Rich for his generosity and the many neat freebie items he provided as well. After dinner, some of us returned to the hotel bar to cap off the night with a short poker tournament.

On Sunday, I had to split off to help Mike with his dead shark in Artesia while Joe P. led the caravan to SuperCar Sunday at Village Coffee Roasters in Calabasas. Throughout that morning, we began to learn more and more about the wildfires that were springing up in the Malibu area. With high winds gusting to 80 mph, fire vehicles, horse trailers and road closures galore throughout the Malibu area, we had to abbreviate the Fun Tour route, but we still ended up at the Sagebrush Cantina for a delicious, if heavily wind-blown lunch. It wouldn't be Southern California without a brush fire or some other calamity would it?

Thank you to everyone who registered and attended and thanks most of all to Mark Anderson and his family, Jim, Tom and everyone at 928 International for their time and generosity in staging this event. A big thanks is due to Joe Privitelli for his help and creativity in planning and managing the many activities on tap this year.

That's it for this year. Pictures will be posted soon!
